Youth Development Series

About

The Foundation for Scottish Fencing run a series of U9/U11/U13 and U15 Foil, Epee and Sabre youth fencing competitions each season called the Youth Development Series (YDS).


The YDS events attracts fencers with mixed abilities from novice fencers attending their first competition to Scottish and British Youth champions. The majority of Scottish & GBR cadet and Junior fencers started their competitive journey at YDS events.


ALL profits from the Foundation or Scottish Fencing events are used to fund grants to purchase fencing kit for not for profit clubs, schools/universities to enable and encourage participation in youth fencing in Scotland.

One-two rounds of poules followed by Direct elimination (DE). All DE places are fenced for at YDS events subject to entry numbers and number of referees.

2022-2023 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You require a British Fencing "Compete" membership to enter Youth Development Series (YDS) Series events. Entry is open to all British Fencing Regions.


The following age groups can comEntry Feespete at this event. U9/U11/U13/U15 It is the fencers age before 1st January 2023 that determines the age category.  


  • U9 - Born in 2014/2015
  • U11 - Born in 2012/2013
  • U13 - Born in 2010/2011 
  • U15 - Born in 2008/2009 

Event MEDALS and Series winners

There are medals for the top four places at each YDS event. Series champions will be determined by the best 3 results from the 4 YDS events. The series champions receive a special series champion medal and silver salver.

ENTRY FEES

Entry to the YDS events is managed through British Fencings Sport80 platform.


Single Weapon Entry Fee: £16.00 (£12.50 early bird rate 21%saving ) 


Two Weapon/Sibling Entry Fees: £11.20 after discount (£8.75 early bird rate 45% saving ) 

Contact us in advance for the two Weapon/Sibling Entry 30% discount code.


Please contact us in advance if you are experiencing financial difficulties, and feel the entry fee may be a barrier to participating as we have a limited number of 100% discounted entries.

WEAPON & KIT REQUIREMENTS

Please ensure the fencers under your care are safe and have the correct working kit.

 

The referees will check that the fencer is wearing the correct equipment at the start of the poules.


They will be checking that the correct plastron rating is being used, checking for loose helmets, checking that long socks are being worn with no bare skin, checking for holes in glove, checking FIE stamped glove for U15 sabre, checking lame bib and bib wire is being used for U15 foil. 


If the fencer is not wearing the correct equipment, or their equipment is deemed unsafe they will not be allowed to fence.  So please check and test your equipment at your club training prior to attending the event.
