Series Winner Salvers and Series Winners Medal

In a normal YDS season four events are held. At the end of the season the points from your best 3 YDS competitions are added together to make your season points total. If you have entered all 4 competitions in the season you ignore your lowest scoring event.

The following conditions are based on a standard four event YDS season. A season is August to June, however if we are unable to hold four YDS events in a season such as during initial Covid lockdown and the subsequent tentative return to fencing, it is at the discretion of the Foundation as to whether salvers and series medals are presented.

Conditions

Series winners salvers and series winners medals will only be awarded to fencers who have competed in at least three of the seasons four YDS events. The salvers and medals will not be awarded if you have competed in less than three YDS events.

At the final YDS competition of the season series winner salvers and series winners medals will be presented to the fencer in each age/weapon category with the greatest number of season points (3 of 4) at the YDS Finalé event. (event 4 of 4)

Tied Points

If at the end of the season final YDS event points are tied between fencers in an age/ weapon group, then the series winner will be decided by:

If condition 1) is met then series winners salver and series winners medal are presented, otherwise if fencers are still tied then follow condition 2) if still tied then condition 3) if still tied then condition 4)

  1. If two or more fencers have the same number of season points at the end of the season finalé, then the fencers with the greatest number of gold medals between the tied fencers will be awarded the series winner salvers and series winners medal. If still no outright winner then 2)
  2. If the fencers are still tied then the series winner will be awarded to the highest placed tied fencer at the YDS finalé competition. If only one of the tied fencers competes at the final YDS event, then that fencer will be awarded the series winners salver and series winners medal. If still no outright winner then 3)
  3. If the fencers are still tied then a sudden death 1 minute bout will take place following standard fencing tied rules. Priority is randomly assigned via the scoring machine.
    A victory occurs when:
    a) The next touch is scored; or
    b) If one minute expires and the score remains tied, the fencer who was assigned priority is the winner will be awarded the series winner salvers and series winners medal.
  4. If the tied fencers do not attend the season finalé (and have fenced in 3 YDS events), then the series winner award to the tied fencer base on count back of number of 1st, 2nd, 3rd places etc. for each tied fencer. i.e. fencer with most 1st places is awarded the series winners salver and series winners medal, if still tied, most 2nd places, if still tied most 3rd places etc.
