Please ensure the fencers under your care are safe and have the correct working kit.
The referees will check that the fencer is wearing the correct equipment at the start of the poules.
If the fencer is not wearing the correct equipment, or their equipment is deemed unsafe they will not be allowed to fence. So please check and test your equipment at your club training prior to attending the event.
You should have a minimum of two weapons, two body wires and two head wires, one to use and one as a spare. You should test these prior to attending the event at your club.
Check jackets, breeches and gloves to make sure there are no holes and that seams are in good condition. Gloves with holes will fail and will not be acceptable..
Lamés should be checked for blind spots at club training prior to the event (no green or red light or a white light when hit indicates a blind spot).
It is good practice to clean Foil and Epee barrels and change grub screws and springs before an event. This ensure the weapon will be unlikely to fail or cause what lights and delays.
Helmets must fit correctly and have the fasteners adjusted to fit the fencers head.
Long hair must be tied up – in foil and sabre in such a way that it does not cover the back of the lame.
You can be yellow carded at competitions even before the bout has started by coming on-piste with kit that fails the weapon check at the start of the bout.
If you don’t know how to check and test your equipment ask your club armourer or coach to show you. If your kit does not meet the following minimum requirements or is deemed unsafe by the event officials the fencer will not be allowed to fence. No exceptions.
Remember and bring ALL your kit. Double check its in your fencing bag the night before! If you are unsure speak to your club.
Please ensure the safety of your child and avoid disappointment by ensuring they are wearing the correct equipment. Further information on kit is also on the British fencing website: Safety Guidelines 19th Edition, Board Approved February 2022
